Interesting enough, I read on the Seaford Education Spotlight newsletter
that teachers are introducing a “flipped classroom method of instruction” (the
opposite of traditional learning).
Immediately, I became curious and read that this method is making an impact on
students’ performance. Since
technology draws students’ attention and seems to keep them engage in their
learning, teachers are utilizing this to their advantage. They are using technology
to reach their students and to maintain them active in every lesson.
How flipped
classroom works? Instead of teachers lecturing
students in the classroom and then assign homework, students first study a
topic on line at home or outside the classroom. Then they communicate with classmates
and teachers by hosting on line discussions.
This model of instruction encourages collaboration
and communication. Now teachers are able to learn in advance if students
understand the topics, and provide teachers the ability to address in the
classroom the concepts that students may have shown difficulty in making an academic
connection.

Very nice first entry, Nora! I am glad that you are interested in flipped classrooms. Your choice of vocabulary words and the exercise are excellent. In number 6, you want the students to write the verb "perform," but you might have to give them a hint that it is part of the noun "performance." ESL students might not know how to get the verb from the noun.
ReplyDeleteFeel free to write about any topic next time -- your interests and hobbies, your favorite movies or books, etc. You don't have to stick to education. I am looking forward to your next entry.
Hi Nora! I enjoyed reading your entry about flipped classrooms. I agree that flipping the classroom definitely encourages collaboration and communication among the students as well as with the teacher. I think this is a good strategy for keeping the students engaged and motivated. I also think it was great that you identified the tenses of the verbs in your vocabulary section. Indicating the tense of the verbs would be helpful for many students.
